· I have a cold. Who gets a cold in Africa? I was expecting diarrhea, vomiting, maybe even typhoid, but a cold? People are very bothered by my obnoxiously load sneeze.
· Men hold hands here and I absolutely love it. There’s nothing more interesting that two huge black men, strolling down the street together as good friends.
· I’m not hungry here. Back home my hunger never ceases. The food here is surprisingly good, especially the meat (Thank God I’m not a vegetarian), but I find that I must force myself to eat at regular intervals.
· Shaking hands with an old man with both hands amputated is initially awkward but ultimately very touching.
· Heidi’s hair is shorter than mine now.
· There is surprising peace here. I could have never guessed that a war just ended a mere six years ago. With only the immense poverty, shattered infrastructure and dispersed amputees as physical reminders of the brutal civil war, its easy to believe this is a country of peace, community, and love. Tom (an international volunteer from the UK) and I were watching some documentaries on Sierra Leone and we recognized places we’d been and seen, the only difference was the presence of rebel soldiers, gun fire, death and tears. It’s all so surreal.
· After living with a British man, I’ve quickly discovered that my American accent causes me to pronounce the “t” sound as a “d” sound. For instance, say out loud the words ‘water’, ‘letter’, and ‘fighter’. I personally am inclined to say “wader, ledder, and fidder”. Very strange and somewhat embarrassing, if it were the case that I ever felt embarrassment.
That's all for now. Love you all!

Friend!!
You have a cold. Boo! I randomly got the flu, which I also didn't expect. Oh, crazy illnesses in foreign countries!
Ummm... you live with a British man?! Tell me how that works! :) And don't be worried by your mispronunciation ... if you pronounce things too precisely (or use words like "precisely" too much) you'll sound like a GEEK!
holy CRAP about Heidi's hair! I looked at her facebook pic --- soooo cute!
... how has global rescue mission been so far? what have you been doing?
I love you soooo much and miss you immensely!
